Die Schnittstelle kann neben den Bilddaten auch Kommandos und Settings für den Displaycontroller, wie Spannungseinstellungen und Gamma-Werte übertragen. Hauptanwendung zurzeit bei Smartphones und Tabletts.

MIPI-Bridge ist ein Begriff für eine Interface-Schaltung, die zu einem fertigen System hinzugefügt wird um die Ausgangschnittstelle des Systems auf ein MIPI-Format umzusetzen.
